  • First day of filming for Season 10 began on 2/20/06!!

  • Claudia Black has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the 2006 Saturn Awards!

  • Quote from Michael Shanks in Zap2It.com article

    • Appearing in the recurring role of ethically challenged thief Vala was Browder's "Farscape" co-star Claudia Black. She will be a regular in season 10, and Shanks hopes the current love/hate relationship between Vala and Jackson expands.

"That can still work," he says, "but it needs to be toned down, otherwise it's one of those things that doesn't leave a lot of room for the other characters. It's good to have two people who respect each other work together and still have those comedic moments. You can make sure they still exist, and the tension still exists, without being redundant."  - Michael Shanks www.zap2it.com 1/04/2006

  • Claudia Wins Best Sci-Fi Actress (TV or Film) from Sci-Fi Brain Best Sci-Fi of 2005 awards!!

    • "A fan favorite from the now canceled Farscape, Claudia Black moved over to SG-1 with newcomer Ben Browder (also from Farscape) while Amanda Tapping recovered from having her baby. Her stint was only a handful of episodes long (around 5-7 in total), but since her leaving she has been sorely missed by those who loved her portrayal of the character Vala. Vala was funny, flirty, dangerous, and worked well with all of the other characters…especially Daniel Jackson. The demand of the fans has been so great, next year she will officially join the cast as a full-time member. We already wish that day were now." - (12-23-05) Sci-Fi Brain

Answer: If there is a season ten, there will definitely be more Vala headed your way!

  • Quote from Claudia Black on Vala

    • "The window isn't closed on Vala.  That's for sure.  It really depends on if I'm available and they can get what they want [storywise].  It's a nice position to be in, to be in love with a character you've played, who may live on again, who you want to go back to." -Chicago Tribune, July 2005

  • Quote from Joe Mallozi's Blog on Gateworld

    • We watched the director's cut of Crusade this morning. Robert did a great job with his directorial debut. Some great shots and overall great moments in this one. Of course, he was helped by some amazing performances, and some equally amazing lighting by Peter Woeste. Its nice to have Claudia back.

  • Amanda Tapping on Claudia in the latest TV Zone Magazine

"[Vala] is such fun, and Claudia plays her so beautifully. To be honest, after I watched one of the early episodes from [Season 9], I was actually worried that audiences would embrace Vala so much that when I came back they’d do, ‘Oh no, not boring Sam Carter again. We like that cool Vala character, Keep her around instead."

"...Claudia was so supportive when I came back to work….when she left I was like, ‘Please, let her stay. She’s smart, funny and another girl. Why can’t there be two of us on the team?’ I’m hoping they bring Vala back as I’d love to work with Claudia again."

  • Stargate: SG-1 (9.8) "Babylon" - Review

    • I tell you…I haven't liked a single episode since Vala left. That comment isn't coming from a die-hard Claudia Black fan either - this was really only the first time I've watched her since I never saw enough of Farscape to appreciate the woman - but that is just coming from someone who knows a good thing when he sees it. I'm hoping, so hoping, that the writers will make her a permanent fixture next season if there is a next season.

  •  Michael Shanks' interview in TV Zone Special #64
  • There’s no denying that Daniel Jackson had his work cut out for him dealing with Vala when she made her début last year in the episode Prometheus Unbound. Nonetheless, Michael Shanks couldn’t have been more pleased when Claudia Black returned this season to reprise her SG-1 role.  “Claudia is the first actor I’ve met whose brain actually operates at the same speed as mine. Scary, huh?” laughs Shanks. “Working with her on Prometheus Unbound was a gift, and a real blessing to meet someone who’s a true touchstone in many different ways. “Obviously, having Claudia back this year was a treat. I don’t think I’ve ever smiled and laughed quite so much on this show. Claudia brings so many ideas to the table all the time. When it comes to our two characters, we see them as having a sort of Spencer Tracy/Katharine Hepburn dynamic, not so much of tension but rather constant antagonism. Their bickering leads to a lot of comedy and always spices up dull exposition scenes. Vala brings out a side of Daniel that I hadn’t really had the chance to play before. She pushes certain buttons on him that no one else is able to, and I just love that.”

  • Quote from Joe Mallozzi about Vala (thanks to BeautifulVala for the info)
    • "Personally, I think she's a terrific character. She's roguishly-wicked, funny, and impossible to pin down. There's no knowing whether she has a hidden agenda or what her true motives are - but, despite all that, there's the sense that she is a good person at heart. In short - she's a blast to write for."
